Responsibilities:
- Assist residents and patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting in LTC, rehab, or home health settings
- Monitor and accurately record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, and temperature, reporting changes to the supervising nurse
- Support patient mobility and ambulation, including safe transfers using mechanical lifts, gait belts, and mobility aids in accordance with care plans
- Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to patients and residents, particularly those in long-term care or receiving home health services
- Assist with meal preparation, feeding support, and hydration monitoring to ensure proper nutritional intake for assigned patients
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment by performing light housekeeping tasks and ensuring infection control protocols are followed
- Communicate effectively with the nursing and interdisciplinary care team regarding changes in patient condition, behavior, or needs
- Document care activities accurately in electronic health records (EHR) or written logs in compliance with facility and regulatory standards
- Assist rehabilitation patients with therapeutic exercises and ROM activities under the direction of licensed therapy or nursing staff
- Respond promptly to patient call lights, alarms, and requests, prioritizing safety and dignity in all interactions
Qualifications We Look for in Austin CNA Candidates
- Current and active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification listed on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry (NAR) in good standing
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Minimum of 6 months of hands-on experience as a CNA in a healthcare setting preferred; new graduates with clinical training will be considered
- Familiarity with long-term care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or home health workflows and documentation practices
- Ability to pass a state and federal background check, drug screening, and TB test as required by Texas state regulations and facility standards
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a demonstrated commitment to patient-centered, dignified care
- Physical ability to perform the demands of the role, including lifting, standing for extended periods, and assisting with patient transfers
- CPR/BLS certification (current or willingness to obtain prior to first assignment)
