Responsibilities:
- Assist residents and patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting in LTC, rehab, or home health settings
- Monitor and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature, reporting any changes to the supervising nurse promptly
- Provide safe mobility assistance, including transferring patients using proper body mechanics and assistive devices to prevent injury
- Support rehabilitation patients in completing prescribed exercise routines and therapy-related activities under the guidance of licensed therapists and nursing staff
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients, including changing bed linens, sanitizing equipment, and organizing patient spaces
- Deliver compassionate emotional support and companionship to patients, particularly those in long-term care or receiving home health services, to promote dignity and well-being
- Accurately document patient observations, care provided, and any behavioral or physical changes in the electronic health record (EHR) or care log
- Assist nursing staff with clinical procedures such as specimen collection, catheter care, and wound dressing changes as permitted within Maryland CNA scope of practice
- Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary care teams, family members, and patients to ensure coordinated, person-centered care
- Adhere to all infection control protocols, HIPAA regulations, and facility or agency-specific policies to maintain a safe care environment
Qualifications & Requirements for Baltimore CNA Candidates
- Active and unrestricted Maryland CNA certification in good standing with the Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON)
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- Minimum of one completed clinical rotation or documented hands-on patient care experience (new graduates with Maryland-approved CNA training accepted)
- Current CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening as required by Maryland state regulations and facility standards
- Demonstrated ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely, with the physical capability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods during a shift
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a genuine commitment to patient dignity, comfort, and person-centered care
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) platforms and basic clinical documentation preferred, though training may be provided
