Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents and patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, and oral hygiene in LTC, rehab, and home health settings
  • Monitor and accurately record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate, and temperature, reporting changes to the supervising nurse
  • Assist patients with safe ambulation, transfers, and repositioning using proper body mechanics and assistive devices to prevent falls and pressure injuries
  • Support feeding assistance at mealtimes, documenting nutritional intake and fluid consumption in accordance with facility care plans
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients by changing bed linens, sanitizing patient areas, and organizing personal belongings
  • Provide compassionate emotional support and companionship to residents and home health clients, promoting dignity and independence at all times
  • Assist rehabilitation patients with prescribed exercise routines and therapy-related activities under the direction of licensed nursing or therapy staff
  • Observe and promptly report changes in patient condition, behavior, or skin integrity to the charge nurse or supervising healthcare professional
  • Document care activities accurately and in a timely manner within electronic health records (EHR) or paper-based systems per facility protocol
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including nurses, therapists, and social workers to ensure continuity and quality of patient-centered care

Qualifications & Requirements for CNAs in Norfolk, VA

  • Current and active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of Virginia, in good standing with the Virginia Board of Nursing
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum completion of a state-approved CNA training program with demonstrated competency in clinical skills
  • Current CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
  • Prior experience in a long-term care, rehabilitation, or home health setting is preferred but not required for entry-level candidates
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and TB test as required by Virginia state regulations and facility policy
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary nursing and healthcare team
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, and assist patients with mobility and transfers throughout the shift
