In this full-time CNA role serving Alexandria, VA and surrounding communities, you'll provide hands-on, compassionate care to clients in home health settings — helping individuals maintain independence, dignity, and quality of life. Shifts are flexible and span days, evenings, nights, weekends, and rotating schedules, giving you the scheduling versatility that modern caregivers deserve. Compensation ranges from $18 to $26 per hour, reflecting your experience and the assignments you take on.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and ambulation
- Monitor and document vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperature, reporting changes to supervising RNs or LPNs promptly
- Provide skilled positioning, transferring, and mobility assistance including use of gait belts and assistive devices
- Support nutritional needs by preparing meals, assisting with feeding, and monitoring fluid and food intake
- Perform range-of-motion (ROM) exercises and encourage patient participation in prescribed activity plans
- Maintain a clean, safe, and infection-controlled care environment in accordance with OSHA and state home health standards
- Observe and report changes in client condition, behavior, skin integrity, or mental status to the care team
- Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to clients experiencing isolation, cognitive decline, or chronic illness
- Accurately complete daily care logs, shift notes, and electronic health record (EHR) documentation per agency protocol
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary home care teams including RNs, physical therapists, and social workers to ensure continuity of care
Requirements
- Active Virginia CNA certification (Nurse Aide I on the Virginia Board of Nursing registry) in good standing
- High school diploma or GED required
- Current CPR/BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted)
- Experience with home care, home health, or nursing home environments preferred — all experience levels considered
- Demonstrated ability to assist with ADLs, ROM exercises, vital sign monitoring, and safe patient transfers
- Knowledge of infection control protocols, standard precautions, and HIPAA compliance requirements
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening in accordance with Virginia home health regulations
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to client homes within Alexandria, VA and neighboring Northern Virginia communities
- Strong interpersonal skills with a patient, empathetic, and culturally sensitive approach to client care
- Preferred: Prior experience using electronic health record (EHR) or EVV (Electronic Visit Verification) systems
- Preferred: Bilingual communication skills (Spanish, Amharic, or Arabic a plus given Alexandria's diverse population)
