Responsibilities:

• Assist patients and residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, and mobility support across LTC, home health, rehab, and clinic settings
• Monitor and accurately document vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate, reporting any changes to the supervising nurse promptly
• Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to patients, particularly those receiving long-term or end-of-life care in skilled nursing or home health environments
• Assist with patient transfers, repositioning, and ambulation using proper body mechanics and assistive devices to ensure safety for both patients and staff
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized care environment by performing light housekeeping tasks, changing linens, and sanitizing patient areas in accordance with infection control protocols
• Support rehabilitation patients with prescribed therapeutic exercises and range-of-motion activities under the direction of physical or occupational therapy staff
• Respond promptly and professionally to patient call lights, requests, and emergencies, escalating concerns appropriately to licensed nursing personnel
• Accurately complete and maintain patient care records, intake and output logs, and daily documentation in compliance with facility and regulatory standards
• Collaborate as an integral member of the interdisciplinary care team during shift handoffs, care plan meetings, and daily huddles to ensure continuity of patient care
• Educate patients and family members on basic care techniques, safety precautions, and comfort measures as directed by the supervising registered nurse or care manager

Qualifications We Look For in Our Washington, DC CNAs

• Active and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification issued by the District of Columbia or eligibility to obtain DC reciprocity from another state's certification
• Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required; completion of a state-approved CNA training program is mandatory
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, drug screening, and TB test in accordance with DC healthcare facility requirements
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact compassionately and effectively with patients, families, and multidisciplinary care teams
• Physical ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely, including the capacity to stand for extended periods during shifts
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems or willingness to learn facility-specific documentation platforms
• Candidates with prior experience in long-term care, home health, rehabilitation, or outpatient clinic settings are encouraged to apply, though entry-level CNAs are also welcome
