Responsibilities:

• Assist patients and residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting in accordance with individualized care plans
• Monitor and accurately record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates, reporting changes to the supervising nurse promptly
• Provide compassionate mobility assistance including transferring and repositioning patients to prevent pressure injuries and promote circulation
• Support nutritional needs by assisting patients with meals, monitoring food and fluid intake, and documenting consumption as required by facility or agency protocols
• Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients in LTC, home health, rehab, or clinic settings in compliance with infection control standards
• Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure continuity and quality of care
• Assist licensed nursing staff with clinical procedures and patient observations, including specimen collection and catheter care under direct supervision
• Document care activities accurately in electronic health records (EHR) or paper charts in accordance with Virginia state regulations and employer policies
• Respond promptly and professionally to patient call lights, requests, and emergencies, demonstrating a calm and patient-centered approach at all times
• Participate in care conferences, staff meetings, and required in-service training to maintain competency and support a culture of continuous improvement

Qualifications & Requirements for CNA Candidates in Alexandria, VA

• Active and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the state of Virginia, in good standing with the Virginia Board of Nursing
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required; additional healthcare education or training a plus
• Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an accredited provider such as the American Heart Association or Red Cross
• Experience in at least one of the following settings preferred but not required: long-term care, home health, inpatient rehabilitation, or outpatient clinic
• Demonstrated ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely, with the physical stamina to perform duties across full shift durations
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a genuine commitment to patient dignity, privacy, and person-centered care
• Ability to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends, rotating, or flexible schedules based on facility and patient needs
• Satisfactory completion of pre-employment background check, drug screening, and tuberculosis (TB) testing as required by Virginia healthcare regulations and employer standards
