Responsibilities:

• Assist patients and residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and oral hygiene across LTC, rehab, home health, and clinic settings
• Monitor and accurately document vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiratory rate, reporting abnormal findings promptly to supervising nursing staff
• Support safe patient mobility by assisting with transfers, ambulation, and repositioning using proper body mechanics and approved assistive devices
• Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to patients and their families, particularly in long-term care and home health environments
• Assist with meal preparation, feeding, and nutritional monitoring for patients with dietary restrictions or swallowing difficulties
• Maintain a clean, safe, and dignified patient environment by performing routine room upkeep, linen changes, and infection control procedures
• Collect and document specimens, input/output measurements, and other clinical data as directed by the supervising RN or LPN
• Respond promptly to patient call lights, emergency situations, and family concerns with professionalism and empathy
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary care teams — including nurses, therapists, and social workers — to support individualized patient care plans
• Adhere to all federal, state, and facility-level regulations regarding patient rights, HIPAA compliance, and safety protocols specific to Virginia healthcare settings

Qualifications We Look for in Fairfax CNA Candidates

• Active and unrestricted Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification registered on the Virginia Nurse Aide Registry
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required
• Current CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (or willingness to obtain prior to start date)
• Ability to pass a state and federal background check in compliance with Virginia Department of Health regulations
