Responsibilities:
- Assist residents and patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, grooming, dressing, and oral hygiene in both LTC facility and home health environments
- Monitor and accurately document vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, and weight, reporting any changes to the supervising nurse promptly
- Provide mobility assistance including transferring patients using proper body mechanics and assistive devices such as Hoyer lifts and gait belts to prevent falls and injuries
- Support nutritional needs by assisting with meal preparation, feeding, and monitoring intake and output as directed by the care plan in home health and long-term care settings
- Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents and home health clients, including bed-making, light housekeeping, and infection control practices per Maryland state guidelines
- Deliver compassionate emotional support and companionship to geriatric patients, fostering dignity, independence, and trust in every interaction
- Assist with restorative care activities and range-of-motion exercises as outlined in individualized resident or patient care plans
- Observe and report changes in patient physical or mental condition to licensed nursing staff, ensuring timely escalation of concerns in compliance with facility and home health agency protocols
- Accurately complete all required documentation including daily care logs, incident reports, and shift communication notes in accordance with Maryland Department of Health standards
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary care teams including RNs, LPNs, physical therapists, and social workers to promote holistic resident and patient outcomes
Qualifications & Requirements for GNA Candidates in Columbia, MD
- Active and current Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification as issued and recognized by the Maryland Board of Nursing — required for all applicants
- Successful completion of a Maryland-approved GNA training program with current listing in the Maryland Nursing Assistant Registry
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross preferred)
