Responsibilities:
- Provide direct personal care to residents or home health clients, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting, while preserving individual dignity and comfort
- Monitor and accurately document vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature, reporting changes in patient condition promptly to nursing staff
- Assist clients with safe mobility, transfers, and ambulation using proper body mechanics and assistive devices in accordance with individualized care plans
- Support meal preparation and feeding assistance for residents or home health clients with dietary restrictions, ensuring adequate nutrition and hydration
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized care environment in both long-term care and home health settings, adhering to Maryland infection control standards
- Provide companionship and emotional support to geriatric clients, fostering trust and reducing feelings of isolation or anxiety
- Assist with range-of-motion exercises and restorative activities as directed by the supervising licensed nurse or physical therapist
- Document care activities accurately in electronic health records (EHR) or written care logs, maintaining compliance with Maryland Department of Health regulations
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams — including RNs, LPNs, social workers, and therapists — to ensure coordinated, person-centered care
- Respond promptly and calmly to resident or client call lights, emergencies, and requests, demonstrating reliability and a patient-first attitude at all times
Qualifications & Requirements for GNA Candidates in Baltimore, MD
- Active Maryland GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification in good standing with the Maryland Board of Nursing
- Current listing on the Maryland Nurse Aide Registry with no substantiated findings of abuse, neglect, or misappropriation
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required
- CPR/BLS certification (current and valid) required prior to placement
- Minimum of one (1) completed clinical rotation or demonstrated hands-on experience in a long-term care or home health environment preferred; new graduates welcome to apply
- Ability to pass a state and federal criminal background check and drug screening as required by Maryland Department of Health regulations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with sensitivity to the physical and emotional needs of geriatric populations
- Reliable transportation and availability for day, evening, and/or night shifts across Baltimore City and Baltimore County facilities
