Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents and home health clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support
  • Monitor and accurately document vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature, reporting any abnormal findings to the supervising nurse
  • Provide compassionate, person-centered care to geriatric patients in long-term care or home health settings, honoring individual dignity and cultural preferences
  • Assist with ambulation, transfers, and repositioning of residents using proper body mechanics and assistive devices to prevent falls and pressure injuries
  • Support residents and clients with nutritional needs, including meal preparation assistance, feeding support, and monitoring of food and fluid intake
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized care environment in compliance with Maryland state regulations and facility infection control protocols
  • Observe and report changes in resident or client physical and mental health status to licensed nursing staff in a timely and accurate manner
  • Participate in care plan meetings and collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote optimal patient outcomes
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to residents and home health clients, fostering trust, engagement, and a sense of well-being
  • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations, facility policies, and Maryland Board of Nursing GNA scope-of-practice guidelines in all care activities

Qualifications & Licensure Requirements for GNA Candidates

  • Active Maryland Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification in good standing with the Maryland Board of Nursing
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
  • Minimum completion of a state-approved GNA training program meeting Maryland's 100-hour certification requirement
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross preferred)
  • Prior experience in a long-term care, skilled nursing facility, or home health setting is a plus but not required — all experience levels are welcome
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary nursing and healthcare team
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to commute to assigned facilities or client homes within the Gaithersburg, MD area
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening in accordance with Maryland state and facility requirements
