Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct personal care to residents and clients including bathing, grooming, dressing, and oral hygiene in compliance with Maryland GNA practice standards
  • Assist with mobility, transfers, and ambulation using proper body mechanics and assistive devices to ensure resident and client safety
  • Monitor and accurately document vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, and weight, reporting changes to supervising nursing staff
  • Support nutritional needs by assisting residents and home health clients with meals, feeding, and hydration while observing for swallowing difficulties or appetite changes
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents in long-term care settings and clients' homes, adhering to infection control and OSHA standards
  • Provide compassionate companionship and emotional support to elderly and medically complex clients, promoting dignity and independence at every stage of care
  • Assist licensed nursing staff with routine clinical tasks such as positioning, wound care observation, catheter care, and range-of-motion exercises as permitted under Maryland GNA scope of practice
  • Accurately complete all required documentation including ADL flow sheets, incident reports, and home health care logs in a timely and thorough manner
  • Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary care teams, family members, and supervisors regarding changes in patient condition or care plan updates
  • Adhere to all facility and agency policies including HIPAA regulations, patient rights, and mandatory reporting requirements in the state of Maryland

Qualifications & Licensure Requirements for GNA Candidates in Frederick, MD

  • Active, valid Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA) certification on the Maryland Board of Nursing registry — required for all applicants
  • Current CPR/BLS certification from an AHA- or Red Cross-approved provider
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Prior experience in a long-term care, skilled nursing facility, or home health setting preferred but not required for entry-level candidates
